What’s an over-the-top DVD-junkie-juke?

That’s what Kaleidescape just came out with

“New Kaleidescape Vault Automatically Imports your CDs, DVDs and Blu-ray Discs and Stores them for Easy Retrieval”.  The new M700 holds up to 320 discs…CDs, DVDs, Blu-Ray…you name it, but it doesn’t play them from the carousel, it automatically copies them to a Kaleidescape server enabling you to watch any of them from any TV in the house.    Sorry, no rent, rip, and return option here… which makes the Digital Rights Management advocates breathe easy.

The catch…to watch the content the disc must remain in the M700,  and you need an M-Class player on each TV to stream digital content, and it costs $5995 plus the cost of one of their servers.

Keep in mind, the M700 is not a storage device…it’s a huge cataloger that makes backup of your CD, DVD, Blu-ray discs simple. The actual storage is in the server, and in the server is 16TB…eight 2TB hard drives. It’s refreshing to see that the cloud isn’t the only thing growing storage-wise.  There are some people that need 16TB or more in their home. Unfortunately, I am not one of them.

I’m holding out for Blu-ray streaming from the cloud. Until then, I’ll be old-school, loading one disc at a time, in one room at a time, on one TV at a time, and pressing play.

What’s your dream setup when it comes to home theater systems?
